Serji-X Arrogantus

The following is an excerpt from Notorious: Tomar's Guide to Villainy.

Serji-X was a man who knew his limitations. Yeah, sure, they called him Arrogantus, "The Arrogant One", but c'mon, really, if galactic domination was his thing, he'd probably not have been screwing around Aduba-3 raiding villages with his band of cloud riders.

Some folks might call Aduba-3 the "ass-end of space," and they'd be right. There are only two kinds of people on that rock: folks who're trying to leave and folks who realize they can't. Serji was no farmboy dreaming of adventure and excitement. As a kid he took a look around and realized that he was swimming in a pretty small pond, and it wouldn't take much work to be the biggest fish around.

That's the mark of a truly great villain: someone who can make the best of a bad situation. If you ask me, there are already too many idiots trying to fulfill some tired destiny of galactic conquest. Why bother? Nothing changes. My pop was fighting traffic and dodging taxes during the Old Republic and things are the same for me under Emperor Whatzizname. Oooh, I'm scared of him, I hope he doesn't fly half way across the galaxy and shoot me with blue electricity.

Serji was a villain folks could relate to; you always knew where you stood with him. Here's a guy who wasn't afraid to get in your face and demand half your town's yearly harvest. Don't feel like paying? That's fine with Serji, 'cuz there's nothing like a little pillaging and plundering to blow off some steam.

Look, Serji was just like you, a guy with a job. So what if his involved robbery and extortion? He had to manage his employees and keep 'em happy and productive because, you know, any one of those ungrateful scumbags would kill to have his job.

Ultimately though, Serji-X Arrogantus discovered that no matter how big you are, there's always a bigger fish just waiting to come along and step on you. Usually that lesson is learned metaphorically, but Serji wasn't so lucky.

Still, it's probably better to end up roadkill than shot over a table in a bar somewhere. That's what I figure anyway.
